Stephen is supporting Small Business Saturday – which takes place on December 7 – and ahead of the day itself, a nationwide bus tour visited Cardiff on Tuesday, December 3.
Stephen was joined by Labour’s Shadow Business Minister Toby Perkins MP to mark the event, and they are pictured with Jayne Bryant, Labour candidate in next year’s European elections, as they welcomed the Small Business Saturday bus tour to Cardiff Bay.
Also there to greet the bus were Assembly Members and Welsh Government ministers, and on board were the Small Business Saturday team, along with experts who were able to give local business people advice and tips on developing their business online.
Following the first stop of the bus tour – outside the National Assembly for Wales’ Ty Hywel building in Cardiff Bay – Stephen and Shadow Minister Toby Perkins MP hosted a roundtable event for local business owners, which gave them the chance to discuss the challenges facing small businesses.
Stephen said: “Small businesses are essential to our local economy and an integral part of our communities – but times are tough, and we all we need to do more to support them.
“Small Business Saturday will highlight the contribution that small businesses make in our community. It will also encourage people to shop locally during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year – and show their commitment to supporting small, independent businesses.
“I’m committed to ensuring we listen to the voice of small businesses, and was delighted that a number of local business owners attended the roundtable event to talk about the issues that matter to them.”
Following its visit to Cardiff Bay, the bus travelled to the Wellfield Road area, with Cardiff Central Assembly Member Jenny Rathbone on board. It then moved on to Old Church Road in Whitchurch, where Cardiff North AM Julie Morgan joined the team on board.
The Small Business Saturday team said: “Small Business Saturday is all about encouraging everyone in the UK to support small businesses, both on the day and beyond.
“We want all kinds of small businesses to get involved, so whether you are a family business, local shop, online business, wholesaler or small manufacturer, Small Business Saturday is supporting you!”
- On Saturday (December 7), Stephen will be hosting a street stall to mark Small Business Saturday in Penarth town centre, along with local elected representatives. Traders and residents are all invited to go along and discuss the challenges facing small businesses. The stall will be on Windsor Road, outside the St Fagan’s pub, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
