6th September 2017 – SME4Labour sponsored a successful networking reception at Cucina Restaurant hosted by Tom Watson MP, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Keen to circulate and speak to the many attendees from the creative arts industry, Tom Watson kept his speech short and sweet. “You must be relieved to be at a creative industries reception where you’re not hearing a speech from Matt Hancock!” Watson joked about his Tory opposite number, before going on to explain how Labour plans to work with the industry to forge a post-Brexit settlement that works. He spoke about the excellent ideas for creative industries in Labour’s election manifesto, but that now is an excellent opportunity to improve upon existing policy through consultation with those within the industry. The reception provided a brilliant platform to kick-start the process.
